The Big Dig!

Year 3 have loved being archaeologists and discovering artefacts from within our trench.  They have cleaned the items, sketched the items and tomorrow will begin to catalogue their artefacts.  Great work, Year 3!

A busy day in Year 3

Here is a sneak peak at us using our natural pigments to create animal pictures…

We also wrote some emotive text messages from Ug to his parents. Just look at how we can change our writing to suit this informal style! Did you notice how we can use emotive language; include repetition for effect; and even change our font to emphasise certain words?

Stone Age Art in Year 3

Today in Art we mixed our own paints using natural pigments, thickened by flour and water.

We thought about the natural pigments that pre-historic people could have had access to such as mud, charcoal, clay, berries and roots.

Our own pigments included ginger, mustard seeds, paprika, turmeric and blackberries.

Balance Cakes

Today The Owls have been practising their maths skills by baking ‘balance cakes’. They had to put an egg on one side of the scales and balance it with flour, sugar, then butter. They then had to crack the egg, mix it altogether and share it into cupcake cases …. delicious! Well done everyone!

We love learning outdoors!

The children in the Reception class love being active!

Here we are climbing, jumping, manoeuvring and balancing along the obstacle course we designed all by ourselves!

Growing in Year 2

As part of our Plants topic in Science, Year 2 have been monitoring their broad beans that are growing hydroponically – a few have tiny shoots already!

We’ve been thinking about the best growing conditions for our cress seeds too.

Year 3’s First Ukulele Lesson!

We absolutely loved our first session with Mr Reay! We got the opportunity to perform solo, watch videos of ukulele performances and- amazingly- we can already play 2 songs. We are already excited for next week.

Year 2 Art

In Art this half term we are learning to use Oil Pastels and have started by experimenting with different techniques.  We have learned to blend colours to white, and black and also heavy blending by mixing 2 colours together.  Lots of us said that our favourite technique was called ‘Sgraffito’ because we scratched patterns into the colours.
