Zones of Regulation

We are making super progress, in Year 3, with naming our emotions. We have sorted feelings in to 4 coloured zones.

We know there is no such thing as a bad feeling or a feeling we aren’t allowed to have; we do know that some feelings can help us be more effective learners and some can make learning tricky!

We have created some display posters for our classroom to support us as we practise communicating how we feel.

Exploring Paragraphs

Year 3 thought about how paragraphs are a collection of sentences about the same thing.

We explored some paragraphs from our class text (The Adventures of Alfie Onion by Vivian French) to find out what they look like and when they change.

We know you need a new paragraph each time you write about a new person, place, time or topic.

Mechanical Systems

We have read our design brief in Year 3. In order to design and make our final product, we had to explore some mechanical systems. We have learnt about inputs, outputs, levers and linkages and then had our first go at making a mechanical system!

STAY AND PLAY IS BACK!

We are delighted to to welcome new friends, and members of our School community, back to Stay and Play. We held our first session on Wednesday this week and what a lovely time we had playing together! Stay and Play is for 0 – 3 year olds and is open to anyone in the area. Please contact us at stayandplay@heddon-school.co.uk should you be interested in joining us, that way we can let you know what is coming up!

Here we are exploring and having fun together!

The Big Dig!

Year 3 have loved being archaeologists and discovering artefacts from within our trench.  They have cleaned the items, sketched the items and tomorrow will begin to catalogue their artefacts.  Great work, Year 3!

A busy day in Year 3

Here is a sneak peak at us using our natural pigments to create animal pictures…

We also wrote some emotive text messages from Ug to his parents. Just look at how we can change our writing to suit this informal style! Did you notice how we can use emotive language; include repetition for effect; and even change our font to emphasise certain words?

Stone Age Art in Year 3

Today in Art we mixed our own paints using natural pigments, thickened by flour and water.

We thought about the natural pigments that pre-historic people could have had access to such as mud, charcoal, clay, berries and roots.

Our own pigments included ginger, mustard seeds, paprika, turmeric and blackberries.

Balance Cakes

Today The Owls have been practising their maths skills by baking ‘balance cakes’. They had to put an egg on one side of the scales and balance it with flour, sugar, then butter. They then had to crack the egg, mix it altogether and share it into cupcake cases …. delicious! Well done everyone!
