School Letter to Parents and to Children 20.03.2020

Dear Parents,

I was hoping to be speaking to you all today in Church after a moving and inspiring Mother’s Day Service filled with love and joy. Instead I find myself writing to you in very different circumstances.

As you are aware the School closes today for many of our children. At this time we do not know how long this closure will last but I am hopeful that we will see the children back prior to the end of the Summer term. Staff have worked hard to provide a mixture of online and paper activities for your children to complete when they are at home. Further activities will be uploaded as time progresses and the children are still able to communicate with their teacher on PurpleMash. If you need to contact the School during the period of closure please do so via telephone or email –

I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to all of the amazing staff at the School who have worked tirelessly to ensure a calm and orderly continuation of the children’s learning. While many of the children finish today the staff team will be back at School on Monday to provide continuing care for the children of critical workers at the request of the Government to enable them to continue the fight against the Coronavirus. I have been overwhelmed at the response of staff to meeting this challenge. I have talked to you a lot about how everything we do in School comes down to ‘loving your neighbour as yourself’ and I think that this is a perfect example of this.

The staff and I have also been moved this week by the number of supporting comments received and the offers of help to volunteer in the coming weeks. While much appreciated, unfortunately the School will have to turn down these offers as we are looking to limit the numbers of children and adults in School to slow potential infection rates. This again shows what an amazing School community we have in Heddon.

It just remains for me to say that it has been a pleasure working with you and your amazing children for this academic year. I am sorry that you have been unable to see the wonderful Mother’s Day services they have been working on and the Summer performance and I am sorry that we were unable to share the children’s fantastic work with you at parents evening. I am sure that the children will make the most of their time at home and will continue their learning journey with you for the time being.

I hope that you all remain fit and healthy and we look forward to seeing you when it is safe to do so.

May the road rise up to meet you,

May the wind be always at your back.

May the Sun shine warm upon your face,

May the rain fall soft upon your fields.

Until we meet again, my friend,

May God hold you

In the hollow of his hand. Amen

Yours sincerely,

Mr. A. Wheatley,
