Throckley Drama Group (who perform at the W.I. Hall, Heddon on the Wall)

A Report of their performance at the 74th Ryton and District Music Festival which took place during February and March 2017:

On Saturday 4th March, Throckley Drama Group once again took part in the 74th Ryton and District Music Festival.
In previous years they have enjoyed success at the Festival and this year was no exception.
Lynda Henderson and Sheila Tweddell won the Duologue section with a witty piece entitled ‘A Bit of Gossip’. Two ladies were chatting together while eating chocolate eclairs and drinking tea. The main topics of conversation were about Mabel’s unfortunate encounter with a weird little man in the local post office and a mutual acquaintance throwing her knickers around Tom Jones neck while he sang ‘What’s New Pussycat’.

Olive White and Brian Coulson coming a very close second in this category with their duologue ‘Digging Deep’.

Christine Hamilton came a close second in the Solo Acting/Monologue section after delighting the audience with her monologue entitle ‘Around the Fridge in 80 Calories’. Anyone who has ever been a member of a Slimming Club will have been able to relate to this account which outlined the ups and downs of attempts at weight loss!!

After a break for delicious homemade cakes and sandwiches, the evening session began with the section for Plays (Open Class).

In this section, Throckley Drama Group performed a play entitled ‘The W.I.’
The play focussed on a group of ladies preparing for a Jumble Sale.
Brenda Maughan was awarded the trophy for ‘Best Performance’ for her portrayal of Claire – a beaten wife who successfully transferred ownership of her husband’s Porsche after finding out he was having an affair, to a fellow WI member who was having a very difficult time financially due to her husband’s fight against cancer.
The play showed the friendship and support which existed between the ladies.
The Adjudicator gave his comments/criticisms and awarded the Trophy for first place to Throckley Drama Group.

All in all a very successful evening.
